Why you need to communicate
Published: 25/10/2010 by David Blakelock
YOU run a ministry or a church and want to tell the world. So what do you do? Run off a few documents from Word and push them through letterboxes?
It is cost effective, but it's not an effective way of communicating with potential supporters or people who want to know more about your church and the Christian message.
People are bombarded with information these days, particularly electronically, so they may take more notice of something they receive through the conventional letterbox. However, if it looks like it was put together using cheap methods it will look...cheap!
In this world of material values, you need to catch the eye and a professional brochure, leaflet or even a magazine will make all the difference. Why? Because it looks credible. And for Christian ministries, a professional magazine with interesting content is more likely to make supporters relate more strongly to you.
Of course, not every church or ministry can afford to spend money on a designer, let alone someone who can edit the publication professionally.
There are ways to do this, and there are Christian businesses, such as ours, that can help you. It may seem a lavish way to spend money, but communication is what Jesus did best, and so it should be considered important to churches and ministries to improve their communication.
Getting mentioned in your local newspaper can also help spread your message, so consider producing a story. You don't have to worry about writing a press release if the story really is exciting, because a phone call to a reporter will be enough.
Remember, God created us to communicate, so don't think it's a luxury. Without communication, you can't spread the Word.
